Expectations

DISCIPLINE

Substitute teachers are responsible for control of classes. Corporal punishment by the teaching staff is prohibited by policy. Substitute teachers are encouraged to check in with the principal for a copy of building guidelines and seek assistance from the principal, as it is needed.

FACULTY MEETINGS

Substitute teachers are invited to attend staff meetings. Teachers substituting over a five (5) consecutive day period for the same teacher are expected to attend all staff meetings.

ETHICS

A substitute teacher is expected to observe the ethical codes of the regular teachers. The records and information to which the substitute teacher has access must be handled with utmost discretion. Loyalty to the school system and community is expected. While differences of opinion as to methods and aims may exist and may even be healthy, gossiping from school to school, or school to community is not appropriate. If you have questions or concerns, please contact the teacher and/or principal.

CURRICULUM

The success of every student is our number one priority at Grand Haven Area Public Schools.  In addition to the traditional subject areas such as math, reading, science and social studies, our students will become a quality producer who understands the importance of excellence.  Our students will learn to work as a team member who applies creative and critical thinking skills to solve problems.  Our students will become self-directed learners and will understand responsibility to the community and the world.  Each child has different interests, distinctive talents, and a promising future.  The staff at Grand Haven Area Public Schools working in partnership with parents will provide our students with the skills to build a successful future.

ACCEPTING CALLS

It is expected that substitute teachers will accept assignments for both full and half-day assignments. If you need to cancel a job you have already accepted, please allow enough time for a replacement substitute to be located. AESOP will not accept cancellations after 7:00 a.m. on the day of the assignment.

SNOW DAYS

When school is cancelled or delayed, a notice will be placed on the AESOP Web Site. Please be sure to check AESOP or the Media before reporting. Under normal circumstances substitutes reporting on days when the District is closed will not be compensated by the District for that time. On School Delay days, a substitute will only be compensated for the amount of time actually worked.
