MSBOA Band & Orchestra Festival

MSBOA District 7 Band & Orchestra Festival

The Grand Haven Band & Orchestra host the annual District Band & Orchestra Festival.  Festival is an opportunity for ensembles from member schools to perform a program of three pieces for adjudication, one of which must be from MSBOA's required list. The Band and Orchestra Boosters assist with the festival by providing volunteers for the event. Due to the number of bands and orchestras that participate, the festival is hosted over 2 days.

Why do we Host?

Grand Haven Schools saves thousands of dollars by hosting the Festival at our school.  With 10 GH organizations participating, a minimum of 20 busses would be needed to transport students. Equipment trucks would also need to be rented for equipment transportation.  Without the help of our parent volunteers, this would not be possible.

Volunteer Opportunities

Auditorium Ushers

Ensure concert etiquette is followed by closing auditorium doors during performances and not allowing parents/adults to enter the seating area except between music selections. Hand out programs and answer questions regarding groups and performing times. Schedules will be provided.

Greeter / Cloak Room

Greet arriving groups and assist in answering questions. Notify groups when time to go to warmup room and guide to warmup (orchestra room) if needed. Monitor the room where arriving groups store their coats, instruments and cases (Aux Gym / Cafeteria). Primarily making sure students that are not performing are not in the area and provide security of the students' items.

Warm up

Stationed at warm up room (orchestra room) and notify group warming up when stage is ready for setup.  Notify group when time to move from warm up to auditorium.

Auditorium backstage

Help with any questions / issues for setup of group.  Keep backstage door closed when group is performing. When group is finished with performance, direct to sight reading room (Band Rehearsal Hall).

Sight Reading

Direct groups leaving sight reading back to cloak room (Aux Gym or Cafeteria). Direct arriving groups to enter at far entrance of orchestra/band practice room.

Equipment

Many groups (primarily bands) will bring their own equipment and will need assistance in moving equipment to/from the unload area. It is important to keep the noise in the equipment area to a minimum as it is close to the performance area and to make sure  hallways allow passage of students from warmup to auditorium.
