Middle School Jazz All-Stars

Formed in the 2010-2011 school year, the Middle School Jazz All Stars was formed to give aspiring students an introduction to the Jazz genre in a traditional big-band format. Students are exposed to a variety of jazz sub-genres as well as basic improvisation. Mr. Ambrose, along with Mr. Novoselich, and mentor students from GHHS work with students every Monday from 3-4:30 pm. 7th and 8th grade saxophone, trombone, trumpet, bass, guitar, piano, and percussion students are encouraged to join. If you play an instrument other than listed above, please talk with a director to determine what accommodations can be made.

Into High School

MSJA students wishing to continue in Jazz at GHHS must perform an audition in late May that will consist of playing a selected tune from the "Real Book" and perform a two-chorus solo over 12-bar blues. The Buccaneer Big Band (Jazz Band) at GHHS meets daily during "0" hour from 6:50 to 7:40 am. No transportation is provided, but several students carpool.
